Robotics

Robotic surgery has become a mainstain in the modern field of urologic surgery. Building on advances made with traditional minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, robotics adds an additional level of maneuverability and precision.

During the da Vinci® procedure, several ½ inch or smaller incisions are made allowing for introduction of the laparoscopic camera and robotic instruments. Every movement of the robot is fully controlled by the surgeon sitting at the robotic control console. Using this technique, excellent visualization is achieved through 3D imaging with magnification of tissues up to 10x their actual size, as well as precise and delicate tissue handling with the advanced robotic instruments.

Drs. Avila, Bigelow, and Eisenberg all completed their training during the modern robotic era with pioneers of robotic surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Mayo Clinic Rochester, Baylor Medical Center, Cornell University, and the University of Southern California. With this level of training, which is unsurpassed in the Phoenix Metro area, they are able to offer the full complement of advanced robotic surgical techniques including for prostate cancer, kidney cancer, bladder cancer, benign kidney disease, female incontinence, as well as other urologic diseases
